Minutes

The minutes of the committee meeting held on 8 th August 2006 were read and signed as true record.

Matters Arising:

  •  The £500 loans are to be repaid this week.

•  The electrical work and some of the water heaters have been causing problems. Stephen Bilclough agreed to investigate and carry out any necessary repairs.

•  It was generally felt that the two steps directly outside the entrance to the hall were dangerous in dark conditions. It was proposed by Martin Keegan and seconded by Gladys Smith that a security light be fitted over the hall entrance door.

•  The display cabinets that were promised to Hugh Lough by the Hancock Museum to enable the committee to store Village Hall photograph albums are no longer available.

•  Stewart Murray has placed sealing compound around the outside to the door of the Bar-Room. Any other solution would be a major and costly undertaking. It was agreed to wait and see if further leaks occur.

•  The front door lock must be of the type recommended by our insurance company (BS 3621). Martin Keegan is to research prices.

Treasurers Report.

Elliot Ward delivered his report and a copy is attached to the minutes.

The Village Show made a surplus of £207 plus £360 for advertising. As yet there has been no solution to the problem regarding the electricity charges for hall and cottage.

Treasure Hunt.

This had been a very successful evening.

Village Show

Successful, but entries and income down. Not well supported by villagers. It was suggested that a separate committee be set up to revitalise the Show Schedule. Martin Keegan to invite a group of six people to assist. A thank you letter had been received from John West who was selling ‘Memory Lane' pictures.

A.O.B.

•  A meeting entitled ‘Meet the Funders' is to be held on 18 th October 2006 at Morpeth Rugby Club. The aim is to offer advice and help wherever possible to organisations like Village Halls should they require funding for particular projects. The Treasurer will attend.

•  An approach has been made by Gill Waterworth of Ogle who is holding a party in the hall on 10 th March 2007. She suggested that the hall committee could staff the bar and retain the profits. David Adams indicated that this might not be possible because of the new licensing laws applying now to village halls.

•  The new licensee of ‘The Beresford Arms' is anxious to be involved whenever possible in village events. It was suggested he might attend a committee meeting occasionally as a guest.

•  Richard Sill is to approach Whites in Pegswood regarding a substantial hut/shed/garage to store the excess chairs.

•  It was agreed to give the caretaker a sum of money for petty cash.

•  The caretaker is to approach Robson and Cowan to price commercial floor polishers.

•  The Morpeth Harriers are to use the hall again this year. They will make a donation rather than be charged a regular rate. This is a special concession because they allow their insurance to cover the fun runners at our village show.

•  Martin Keegan asked that people use the website and that organisations update their information.

•  The Carol singing will be on 23 rd December.

•  There will be a Burns Night supper on 26 th January 2007 followed by a ceilidh.

There being no other business the meeting closed at 9.30pm.
